Iron is mostly found in the red blood cells of the body. Specifically, it is located within the hemoglobin. The hemoglobin is the protein that allows for oxygen to be transported from the lungs through the blood vessels to every cell in the body. Iron is also largely found within the muscle cells in the protein myoglobin which is used to accept and utilize the transported oxygen.
